Helsinki Committee issues statement on proposed law disciplining judges
We, the members of the Helsinki Committee in Poland, strongly object to the manifestly unconstitutional bill that seeks to abolish the independence and dignity of the Judicial Offices. The bill, tabled by Law and Justice Parliamentarians on the exact anniversary of the introduction of Martial Law in Poland, is consistent with the rhetoric of this authoritarian piece of legislation.
The bill, if adopted, would remove Poland from the realm of the European civilisation, human rights, the rule of law, the dignity of every human being and the division of powers. It would be a prelude to Poland’s exit from the European Union.
